WHAT IS AFTERNOON TEA

Afternoon tea began as a British tradition in the mid-19th century. Tea became a way to control hunger between lunch and dinner. The 7th Duchess of Bedford, Anna Russell, is credited with introducing Afternoon Tea. Anna would request a simple meal of tea, bread and butter, and soon after began to invite friends to join her, thus altering her once solitary ritual. In doing so, this soon became more than just a meal, it transformed into a way to socialize, providing friendly chatter (town gossiping) and comfortably relaxing with friends and family while enjoying a leisurely afternoon.

A typical Tea consists of three main courses served on a tiered platter. You can expect finger sandwiches, savory bites, fresh baked scones with clotted cream, jam and/or curd, as well as a variety of pastries and sweets, served with an individual pot of freshly brewed tea of choice from our menu.

Additional menu items are also available based on the level of meal selected, such as soup, salad, quiche or other savory items.

For your dining pleasure, the Sweet Baby Tea Room menu will offer traditional tearoom fare as well as an ever-changing menu based on availability, season and creativity.

PRIVATE ROOM RENTAL

Sweet Baby’s Tea Room is available for private rental. Our capacity is 25 guests. The tearoom will be closed to all other patrons. Enjoy your chosen pre-selected menu and personalized service for a memorable experience.

There is a $200.00 non-refundable room rental fee. To hold your event date, a $250.00 deposit must be provided upon booking secured by credit card. The deposit amount is credited towards your final invoice. Submission of complete credit card details constitutes a binding contractual agreement and signifies your acceptance to the terms of our private rental contract.

Private rental is reserved for three hours from 12:00 until 3:00, with an entry 30 minutes prior for you to set up any specific, pre-approved decorations. Should your event run overtime, there will be an additional charge as stated in the signed contract.

With the exception of your celebration cake, no outside food is permitted. We are able to recommend local bakers if needed. That transaction is between you and your baker of choice and is in no way the responsibility of Sweet Baby’s Tea Room. If you wish us to cut and/or package cake for your guests to take home, you must supply the take home containers. There is no charge for this service.

For that extra special touch, we can also refer you to a local photographer who can capture your day to preserve your memories.

Guests are welcome to bring in alcohol; however, we are not licensed to open, serve or pack up any leftover. Alcohol is self-served, and participation is limited to of age attendees with no exception. Please refer to the alcohol consumption paragraph in your signed contract.

A Final head count must be provided ten (10) days prior to your event date together with the final payment.

Cancellations less than 14 days prior to the event date will incur a service charge as per the terms of your signed rental contract.

DIETARY RESTRICTIONS

We offer traditional, vegetarian, gluten free and at present, a limited vegan menu. Any dietary restrictions must be made known when making your reservation. We will not be able to accommodate any last-minute additions or changes on the day of your visit.

We use a variety of ingredients in our menu preparation. Please note, we are not an allergen free facility but make every attempt to keep all allergens separate. Keep in mind there is always a slight chance of cross-contamination and remind you to take this into consideration when making a reservation. Our practices are in food safety, and we do everything to make certain there are no risks involved. All restrictions must be conveyed at the time your reservation is made and at least 48 hours in advance. Since our menu is prepared fresh daily, we are unable to accommodate last minute requests.
